In the music of DJ, producer and multi-instrumentalist Alex Banks, melody and emotion are just as important as intricate club-ready beats. The Brighton-based artist may make tracks aimed at the dancefloor, but they always come laced with human warmth and feeling.
On his releases for Modeselektor’s Monkeytown label, Max Cooper’s Mesh and Ninja Tune, prismatic sound design decorates rhythms influenced by jungle, broken beat and dubstep, while techno effects hiss and clank, and off-world IDM melodies snake around the arrangements.
Banks has remixed Bonobo, toured with Moderat, and created music for film and TV, investing everything he does with years of experience as a gifted musician and sound engineer.
His latest studio project is a nine-track album for Mesh, ‘Projections’. It’s his most experimental to date and characterised by his exquisite sound design.
Alex Banks’ new album ‘Projections’ is out now. Buy it on Bandcamp.
