In Episode 4 of the Attack Pig Room Podcast, we speak to Christopher Coe, who runs Awesome Soundwave with Carl Cox, a label for live electronic musicians.
Artists performing live is nothing new. We reported on it back in the halycon days of 2013.
Octave One, Kink, Honeysmack, and many others performed live a decade ago. Yet, in recent years, it feels as if it’s exploded in popularity. Gear is more available; there are more affordable and longer-lasting machines, and the sense there is a growing community.
This energy pushed Attack to make Attack Live – a night for live electronic music. It was heavily inspired by Awesome Soundwave, making this interview one sit-down we’ve been really looking forward to.
Awesome Soundwave has committed incredible resources to live electronic music for the past few years. Christopher Coe and Carl Cox are flying the flag.
However, they are not just behind a desk pulling the strings. They’re also making music as a duo, and their latest EP, ‘Mindset EP’, is an edgy, experimental and jackin’ collection of beats – all recorded live in their studio in Australia.
So what does it take to play live? What do you do when it goes wrong like it did at Kappa Futur? And how is it to run a live label?
Mindset EP is out now.
