At CRSSD Festival in September we followed DESIREE into the Chapter One vinyl pop-up and asked her to select her Top Tracks. From a goldmine of gems, here’s what she chose, and why.

‘House Music Will Never Die’

By Glenn Underground

The first record that I chose is by Glenn Underground, and it’s called ‘House Music Will Never Die’. I was drawn to it purely because of the name because I really believe that house music will never die. It’s more of a soulful house vibe, which is dear to my heart because in South Africa, we really, really listen to and enjoy soulful house music. So it’s always refreshing and nice to hear a vibe like that.

‘You Are Safe’

By Keinemusik

The second record is by my good friends, Keinemusik. It’s called ‘You Are Safe’. It’s actually their debut album, which is probably one of the most iconic pieces of electronic music ever to exist. My favorite song on the album is called ‘Guilt Trip’. I really like the African percussion in the track. And, yeah, this record was really like a gateway for me to begin enjoying alternative sounds that I was not necessarily exposed to in my surroundings in South Africa. So yeah, shout out to Keinemusik!

Live at Robert Johnson, the Lifesaver Compilation 2

The third record is Live at Robert Johnson, the Lifesaver Compilation 2. First and foremost, Robert Johnson is one of my favorite clubs, so that’s why I chose the record. And secondly, because of the A-side, which is by Tuff City Kids, Philipp Lauer, and Gerd Jansen. The name of the song is ‘Wooden Dreams’. It’s such a jam. It’s like melodic heaven. I’m a big fan of Gerd Jansen. He’s also such a nice person. The first time I met him, he actually took me out for sushi. So yeah, that’s also part of the reason why I chose the record. Shout out to Gerd Jansen.

‘Do It Again’

By Greg Gauthier

Okay, this one is released on The Djoon Experience. It’s by Greg Gauthier and called ‘Do It Again’. Djoon is an iconic club, so that’s why I chose the record. The A-side ‘Do It Again’ is definitely something I’d like to hear at peak time at the club. It’s so groovy and sexy. I love it.

Jimi Tenor and Freestyle Man ‘Forgotten Planet Awakens’ remix

By Ricardo Villalobos

The last record is by Jimi Tenor and Freestyle Man. Jimi is a legend in my eyes. I first heard his music at a fashion show. Funny enough, it was a Fendi fashion show, and I fell in love. So yeah, when I saw his name pop up on this record, I had to give it a listen. And it’s a really, really lovely one. I particularly enjoy Ricardo Villalobos’s remix of “Planet Awakens.” It’s very trippy, very minimal, in true Villalobos style.
