From Jeff Buckley to Minilogue, Tim Green talks us through his formative musical moments.
What’s the first record you ever bought?
Jamiroquai – Travelling Without Moving album. It probably wasn’t the first record I’d bought, but definitely the first one I remember being good. I love this album still today. The track ‘Didjital Vibrations’ is incredible. The whole sound of the album is great.
The first time you remember hearing electronic music?
Jean Michel Jarre without a doubt. My dad is a huge fan, so I was listening to this as I grew up. ‘Oxygene Pt 4’ especially.
Your favourite ever record?
This is very tough, but keeping up with the nostalgia vibe, I’d say ‘Valerie’ by Steve Winwood for my childhood memories.
The last track of the night?
Minilogue – ‘Hispaniola’.
The best chillout record?
Pat Metheny & Lyle Mays – ‘As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls’.
The record everyone loves but you hate?
‘Happy’ – Pharrell Williams. I have loved Pharrell since forever. He is an absolute genius, and only comparable to Quincy Jones. Nobody else comes close. But that song just sounds like it’s dumbing down the listener and audience – it sounds so beneath his talent to me.
The best record for a family party?
‘All Night Long’ by Lionel Richie? Or Michael Jackson?
The soundtrack to a lazy Sunday afternoon?
Jeff Buckley – Grace. ‘Mojo Pin’ is such an impressive song to open an album.
The record you’re proudest of?
‘Cherry’ on Rebelion.
