“I hope we can offer people a momentary escape from the mess we’re in…” Up-and-coming Southern Fried Records duo Fluida introduce themselves.
Who are you?
Graeme: I’ve spent most of my life trying to work this out and am still none the wiser. This incarnation of me is 50% of Fluida!
Jake: We are Jake and Graeme, currently in a percussion arms-race to see who can find the best shaker.
What do you sound like?
Graeme: I’d rather hear someone else’s description, but personally I’m aiming for a middle ground between the sound of a mating fox and the sound of heaven. Actually probably more towards the sound of heaven. A non-denominational heaven, mind you…
Jake: I have a feeling you might not get anything useful out of Graeme. Allow me… We sound like synths and instruments and raw emotion which comes out as a hot mess that makes you move on the dancefloor yet is still chill enough to relax to at home.
Why should we listen to you?
Graeme: Because why the hell would you read an interview with us and not bother to listen to the music? You’re wasting your life – this is the boring bit, the music is the good bit.
Jake: It will soothe your ears, enrich your soul and make you dance like naked fauns too glad for shame.
What have you released so far? What else have you got coming out in the near future?
Graeme: Three EPs on Southern Fried records, with a few remixes and other bits here and there. Green Spiral EP is next up! As long as there are more colours we haven’t used yet there will be more to come. Mauve Spiral, Taupe Spiral, etc.
Jake: Wenge Spiral, Eburnean Spiral, Fallow Spiral…
What song sums you up? Why?
Graeme: ‘Bat Out Of Hell’ by Meatloaf. It sums up my bittersweet nonchalance, and is also hilarious.
Jake: I’d also like to choose ‘Bat Out Of Hell’ by Meatloaf as it sums up my non-conformist ability for original thought.
What or who is your biggest influence and why?
Graeme: The feeling of partying with my friends and hanging out in the sunshine is the most influential thing for me. I want to get that feeling of joy, the lack of anxiety, the freedom of the moment. Get it in a song, a drink, a food, anything – anywhere I can get it, I want it
Jake: My biggest influence is trying to live a life where I spend my time doing things that I love, in a way that hopefully benefits other people too. I find writing really therapeutic, I hope this comes across in our tracks and can offer people a momentary escape from the mess we’re in.
Where can we hear your music?
Graeme: All the usual streaming and download stores and two or three times a year on the radio as well. Hopefully that number will go up.
Jake: It’s more plays than that! Mostly outside of the UK. We’ve been making some videos too so you can check those out online.
Where will you be in five years’ time?
Graeme: Dead or deep in the sex industry
Jake: Either playing more music or in the shed making percussion out of bamboo.
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself.
Graeme: [Censored by Jake. Reason: TOO PUERILE.]
Jake: I once asked one of the twins from Harry Potter for Hermione’s number as a joke. He didn’t find it funny. In fact I think they were annoyed that they’d been spotted. They left the pub shortly after.
Fluida’s Green Spiral EP is out on September 30th on Southern Fried Records. Find them on Facebook, Twitter and SoundCloud.
