With his fourth LP due soon on Saved Records, David Herrero reflects on his musical history.
What’s the first record you ever bought?
I’ve always been a lover of English 80s pop and a big fan of the American funk and disco music from the 70s and 80s, but my first purchase was a compilation of techno artists in the early 90s from the Mute label called NovaMute: Version 1.1. Here are some of the key tracks from it:
The first time you remember hearing electronic music?
I think that my first experience around electronic music was when I was 11 or 12 years old, listening to old tapes from Detroit techno artists like Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson.
Your favourite ever record?
There are a lot. I think there are a thousand I could pick, but I but will say two are truly key, one from techno and another one from house. Jeff Mills – ‘i9’…

The last track of the night?
For me this is the track. It creates really warm spreading feelings and happiness like no other.
The best chillout record?
I like the style but I don’t know that much about the artists from this genre, anyway for me this one is the best
The soundtrack to a lazy Sunday afternoon?
For Sundays I like deeper sounds and I think it would be perfect with Kevin Yost:
The record you’re proudest of?
All tracks have something of me inside them and almost every track I am proud of in some way, but I will appoint two that I identify with so much:
