“I was late to the party with buying vinyl, though it didn’t take me long to get the bug!” Edinburgh’s Theo Kottis picks his musical favourites.

What’s the first record you ever bought?

Beesmunt Soundsystem – ‘How I Wish’. I’ve been a DJ for a while but I learnt to play on CDJs so I was late to the party with buying vinyl, though it didn’t take me long to get the bug. I nabbed this one in 2014 after attending a few Just Jack events in Bristol, and I’ve been stocking up ever since!

The first time you remember hearing electronic music?

Culture Beat – ‘Mr. Vain’. It might sound far fetched, but I reckon as early as five years old, in front of my TV, dancing to this!

Your favourite ever record?

Soul Capsule – ‘Lady Science (NYC Sunrise)’. Ah, the toughest question! It changes all the time but I’ll go with this one for now. It’s beautiful and I’ve found I’ve had it on repeat recently. I make sure to play this track out at special moments.

The guaranteed floor-filler?

Omar – ‘Feeling You (Henrik Schwarz Remix)’. Everything on this record is brilliant: amazing synth work, vocal and even saxophone. Something for everyone!

The last track of the night?

Talk Talk – ‘It´s My Life’. A classic! I’ve been playing an edit of it recently and it always ends the night on a happy note.

The best chillout record?

Hokuto Sato – ‘Via Negativa’. Lovely deep track with a great jazz breakdown. Perfect for warm ups.

The best record for a family party?

Marvin Gaye – ‘Got To Give lt Up’. This track is sure to get everyone dancing – from your missus to Granny! It’s a crowd pleaser without the cheese!

The soundtrack to a lazy Sunday afternoon?

Blood Orange – ‘Sutphin Boulevard’. One of my favourite bands – I have visions of playing this out this summer season, on the beach, during sunset – perfect vibes.
