Novation’s Launchkey MK3 MIDI controller keyboards feature Ableton Live integration and a number of new modes and features.
Synthesizer and MIDI controller company Novation have upgraded their Launchkey series of keyboard controllers to MK3. The third-generation line up includes 25, 37, 49, and 61-key models. All feature velocity-sensitive keys and a 16 X 2 character screen for visual feedback.
Sixteen RGB backlit velocity-sensitive pads for launching clips, tapping in drums, and other functions come standard on all four models, as do eight control knobs. The pads have been increased in size from previous models, promising greater control. All models also feature a pitch bend and modulation wheel.
The larger 49 and 61-key models feature nine sliders for adjusting parameters and mixer faders.
There are a number of new functions in the MK3 line, including Scale Modes, which restrict the available notes to one of eight chosen scales or modes and the root key. There are also Chord Modes, which turn the keys and pads into chord generators. Other functions include an arpeggiator and mutate function, which can change your patterns on the fly.
The MK3 line is aimed at Ableton Live users, with onboard integration, including capture MIDI, track arm, quantise, click and loop controls. It also has full compliance with Logic and Reason, plus out of the box functionality with other DAWs including Studio One, Cubase and Pro Tools, via the HUI MIDI mapping protocol.
The MK3 units additionally have four custom modes for controlling other software or hardware. With its 5-pin MIDI out socket, the line can also work in standalone mode, meaning no computer is needed for operation.
