The ninth instalment of Jeff Mills’ Every Dog Has Its Day series will be available on July 16th.
Jeff Mills is returning to his Millsart alias to release Every Dog Has Its Day Vol. 9 via his own Axis Records. The series began in the year 2000, with the eighth volume released last month.
“The concept behind the Every Dog Has Its Day project is about all the +/- measuring one does in his or her life” writes Mills in a Facebook post. With a focus on Electronic “folk music” that occasionally veers into Jazz, the project is “uniquely crafted to ease restlessness, soothe impatience and at the same time build high life expectations while opening the passages to a better understanding of what you are searching for.”
Jef Mills launched Axis Records in New York City in 1992, aspiring to explore the “outer and inner sanctums of Techno music”, whilst touching on other genres such as “classic and jazz, Afrobeat”, as well as “other cultural disciplines like cinema, art [and] contemporary dance.” In May, the techno pioneer announced he would actively expand the focus of the label “in the areas of classical, Jazz and film soundtracks.”
“While maintaining our normal pace of Techno music,” Mills states, “we will lengthen to tether out to include more works that include live musicians/soloists and players from other genres, but more importantly, in directions that will address the idea of using instruments to reach a higher level of consciousness.”
