We put Cici to task and asked her to run us through her Top Tracks. There’s not much love for “Show Me Love” and even less for David Guetta.
Having just released her RA mix, RA.970, there’s never been a better time to ask Cici what tracks helped shape her as a selector. Beyond being a purveyor of fine dance music, however, Cici is also a producer and recently released her debut EP “Extraneous’ on Mella Dee’s Warehouse Music. To reinforce the point, there has never been a better time to discover further the tracks that shape her in the studio and the booth.

What’s the first record you ever bought?
Nirvana: Nevermind
Not the most obscure of choices but I started on the grunge and rock tip pretty young! Though I think the next one after this was Smashing Pumpkins – Melancholy and the infinite sadness. The ’90s sure had way better bands than now in my opinion!
The first time you remember hearing electronic music?
Daft Punk: Homework
Someone had bought me an S Club 7 CD for my birthday when I was about 10 years old. Even then I knew it wasn’t the vibe for me so I got my mum to take me to Golden Discs to exchange it and I picked the Daft Punk CD purely for the cover artwork that I liked. Little did I know that was the start of something and 20 years later I would work in electronic music full time!
Your favourite ever record?
Future Sound Of London: Papua New Guinea
An impossible question that I don’t think I could ever narrow down to the exact! It’s between this incredible FSOL track and 808 State – Pacific State for me today 🙂
The guaranteed floor-filler?
Bizarre Inc: I’m Gonna Get You
Seems I’m totally on a 90s tip today but this just came to mind as I played it recently when going b2b with Ceri and it went off. I have some questionable videos of us jumping up and down giving it loads!
The guilty pleasure?
Mariah Carey: Fantasy
You can guarantee birds falling from their nests in nearby trees once I attempt to belt this one out (or any Mariah) after a glass of wine 😉 I loved the tracks in this era of her music though and such great sampling like this one from Tom Tom Club – Genius of Time.
The last track of the night?
Sono: Keep Control
I’ve closed The Space Rave (Freddy’s) at Cosmic Pineapple, Pikes Ibiza with this one before and it was such a moment!
The best chillout record
The Primitive Painter: Levitation
I discovered this from Andrew Weatherall’s Massive Mellow Mix (1993) and instantly became obsessed with the whole album.
The record everyone loves but you hate?
Robin S: Show Me Love
Ok so clearly I know this is an absolute classic but the fact it’s been so overplayed literally since the ’90s, it just irks me now and brings back memories of some not so great parties.
The best record for a family party?
Khruangbin: The Universe Smiles Upon You
Although this is the first, any of the Khruangbin albums I would stick on in the background of a family dinner/ party.
The soundtrack to a lazy Sunday afternoon?
Nightmares On Wax: Smokers Delight
A classic record that needs no introduction, a truly timeless album that I’ll always return to on those lazy Sundays.
The worst record you’ve ever heard?
David Guetta & GLOWINTHEDARK: Clap Your Hands
I am still shocked this even exists, to be honest. BRUTAL!

Extraneous EP on Warehouse Music
My Debut EP on Mella Dee’s Warehouse Music Records. A self explanatory bit of shameless self-promotion – if you haven’t heard it yet check it out!!
The future classic?
Galcher Lustwerk – I neva Seen
Even even though this record is a few years old already, I totally feel like I will go back and listen to it in another 10 plus. I’m a big fan of Galcher Lustwerk’s sound and mixtapes!
