“Sometimes naive and dreamy, sometimes harder and more rough.” Baldo introduces his music.
Who are you?
I’m Baldo Gallego, originally from the South of Spain but based in Barcelona for a few years. I’m too much of a perfectionist sometimes and a multitask guy. I run the label BLD Tape Recordings and co-run Good Ratio Music and Neovinyl. I make and play music as Baldo and BLD monikers. Resident DJ in Razzmatazz for the last five years. Work in vinyl distribution and doing mastering for labels.
What do you sound like?
Baldo sounds like house inspired in a Detroit and Chicago classic sound. Sometimes naive and dreamy, sometimes harder and more rough. BLD sounds like a thick atmosphere, smoky dark room and insanity but somehow keeping the same roots.
Why should we listen to you?
I always say that you have to listen an artist before having the right to criticise him.
What have you released so far? What else have you got coming out in the near future?
Earlier this year I had an EP on Barcelona’s vinyl-only label Feline, one last year on Good Ratio Music and one on Jacques Renault‘s Let’s Play House. As Baldo, last month I had another EP called Doggy Trax featuring a remix by Garrett David on Neovinyl, and just hitting the shops these days, a remix EP on BLD Tape Recordings with reworks of Oliver Deutschmann, ASOK and Freddy Fresh as BLD.
What song sums you up? Why?
I guess my own tracks are the best way to define me as I always try to include certain elements to them in order to have a personal sound: deep, warm, a bit funny but shy too, touches of eclecticism and also pretending to be elegant.
What or who is your biggest influence and why?
Many years listening to new and every kind of music makes you keep all those little details that you like and that’s what I try to express on my DJ sets and studio productions.
Where can we hear your music?
On my SoundCloud I’ve got a lot of my own tracks and remixes, recorded mixes and podcasts. If you’re near Barcelona you have it easier to listen to me live as I play a lot locally, especially in my monthly dates at Razzmatazz Club.
Where will you be in five years’ time?
Still involved in music, perhaps at a new different level. But for sure still playing as a DJ, making new tunes and who knows, maybe a new moniker will show up!
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself.
I have never been to Ibiza.
