Bridging the gap between Jean-Michel Jarre and Robert Hood, self-confessed modular geek DNGLS introduces his music and explains his influences.
Who are you?
My name is Maxime, I’m a modular geek from south of France. I like all kind of electronic music, from Jean-Michel Jarre to Robert Hood.
What do you sound like?
My sound is deep, melancholic, something emotional, sometimes with a big kick drum and sometimes it can be only ambient.
Why should we listen to you?
Well I use only hardware and modular stuff for my trax, and for my live act too. I think there are some sounds or emotions you can’t create with only a computer. The modular’s errors are my best friends.
What have you released so far? What else have you got coming out in the near future?
I have work with my friend Fauntleroy on his label Anemone. I’m really happy with that and I don’t want to release trax on so much different labels so much. I’m going to take my time and hope to release an album soon on Anemone. I’m working on it!
What song sums you up? Why?
Petar Dundov’s ‘Oasis’ is one of my favourites!
What or who is your biggest influence and why?
As I said, I think my modular system is my influence. It drives me every day I spend in my studio!
Where can we hear your music?
On Facebook, SoundCloud, and Twitter.
Where will you be in five years’ time?
I hope to be happy, with my family and my friends, around a barbecue! Something simple!
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself.
I’m French but I don’t drink wine.
DNGLS’s ‘Hooly’ remix EP is out now on Anemone, including three remixes by Berghain resident Len Faki. Find out more here.
