In our occasional video series, artists present a series of clips to introduce us to their interests outside music. This time it’s the turn of Mateo Murphy.
Bill Hicks on Marketing
One of my favourite comedians, and one of his best bits. He had a knack for social commentary
and wringing laughs out of simple ideas and this is a great example.
George Carlin On Christianity
Another of the all-time greats. What set Carlin apart is the musicality of the way he talks, he could be saying complete nonsense and it would still be enjoyable. But he always had interesting things to say, and this bit is one of his thought-provoking best.
Killin’ Them Softly – Dave Chappelle
A master of observational comedy, and a great impressionist, nobody does a better job of tackling racism. This is his first standup special and one of my favourite, the bit about having kids to feed cracks me up every time.
Neal Brennan
Co-creator of the Dave Chappelle Show, his comedy is the mirror image of Dave’s as he tackles the same types of issues but with his own twist. One of those comedians who makes it look effortless, he should really be a lot more famous than he is.
Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee with George Costanza
For those of you who miss Seinfeld, a little throwback. Needed more Newman though.
Aisling Bea On Russell Howard’s Good News
One of my recent discoveries, I love her bit about clubbing. I’m sure anybody who frequented clubs as a teenager can relate.
Jon Richardson Live At The Apollo
Another recent discovery, Jon Richardson has become one of my new favourites, as I can definitely relate to his curmudgeonly side and his slightly compulsive personality. I’m definitely a bit of a putter.
