With his new album, Anipintiros, out now under his Tripeo alias, the Dutchman reflects on his all-time favourites, including Philip Glass, The God Machine and, er, Carly Rae Jepsen.

What’s the first record you ever bought?

Deep Purple – In Rock. I bought it when I was 15 on vinyl, because I was in love with ‘Child In Time’

The first time you remember hearing electronic music?

I must have been six or seven, and it was through my dad. He was playing Jean Michel Jarre’s Equinoxe record a lot. Still one of my favourites.

Your favourite ever record?

The God Machine – One Last Laugh In A Place Of Dying. This one pulled me through some pretty dark times. The story behind the record is really beautiful as well. The God Machine was a very close group of friends. During the recording process of this, their second album, the bass player (Jimmy Fernandez) died tragically as a result of a brain tumor. It was almost not released. Luckily for us, they did put it out in the unfinished state it was in when Jimmy passed away. No mixdowns, no mastering – that’s why it’s sounds so raw & honest. This record literally makes me cry.

The guaranteed floor-filler?

So many of those… If I had to pick one, I choose Outlander – ‘Vamp’. After more then 20 years, people still go absolutely nuts when I drop this.
