“Dusty Springfield, in underpants, on the rocking chair…” Italian minimal lifer Hooved talks us through his formative musical moments.
What’s the first record you ever bought?
My first buying of records were two EPs: Junior Jack – From Hype & Stupidisco and Mousse T – Is It ‘Cos I’m Cool?. It was 2004 and I was with my best friend. I did not own turntables yet, but I was too fascinated by the DJing world.
The first time you remember hearing electronic music?
I honestly do not remember exactly, but we’re talking between the middle and the end of the 90s. I was very influenced by the world of techno and progressive music. I was very young and it all seemed so magical.
Your favourite ever record?
I believe there is no favourite record for anyone who loves music. But I can tell you a song that every time I listen, I seem to go back to being a child and it excites me a lot: Lucio Dalla – ‘Attenti Al Lupo’.
The last track of the night?
Orbital – ‘Belfast’. It would be like saying: “Even though this night is over, see you next time!”
The best chillout record?
I’m not a chillout music lover, so I don’t know much about it, but I really love Enya – ‘Caribbean Blue’ even if it is classified as downtempo/ambient.
The record everyone loves but you hate?
Ahahah! Currently, Ed Sheeran – ‘Perfect’.
The best record for a family party?
All the old and good Italian music from the 70s to the 90s, like Celentano – ‘Yuppi Du’.
The soundtrack to a lazy Sunday afternoon?
Dusty Springfield – ‘The Look of Love’ or something like that. In underpants, on the rocking chair…
The record you’re proudest of?
TIMELESS EP but also my remix for Sascha Dive – ‘Inner Circle (Hooved Dub Remix)’.
