The soundtrack to a lazy Sunday afternoon
This changes all the time. I never listen to the same thing over and over again – my ears are impatient and want something new all the time. Recently I was listening to Jessie Ware’s album and her cover version of Bobby Caldwell’s ‘What You Won’t Do For Love’ was quite interesting. Good laziness for a Sunday afternoon.
The guilty pleasure
I have a big 80s collection on vinyl. I have a weakness for 80s ballads and love songs, especially the melancholic ones. This one from Tears For Fears has been covered several times because the original is such great track.
The best chillout record
The Afterlife remix of ‘Another Chance’ by Roger Sanchez. Cheesy, I know, but it reminds me of Ibiza and great times. Afterlife was very hot back then and created a lot of chillout versions of club tunes. I just feel this is the perfect mix between a great song from back in the days (‘I Won’t Hold You Back’ by Toto) and the chillout factor from Afterlife that wrapped it in blissed-out soundscapes. Ahh… the memories!
The future classic
Hollis P Monroe featuring Overnite – ‘If You Have A Doubt’. This is actually from my own label Noir Music and I love this track to death. Hollis P Monroe was extremely popular in the mid-90s and then he came back with a vengeance in 2011. When he sent me this track in 2012 it was instant love. It’s the perfect example of timeless electronic club music and I will be playing this track ten years from now, I’m 100% sure. It’s one of those tracks I wish I had done myself.
My favourite ever record
Depeche Mode – ‘Enjoy The Silence’. When it came out in 1990 I was already a fan of Depeche Mode’s sound, but this track, alongside the following album Violator, turned me into a fanatic and I ended up buying all their albums and singles. It’s the perfect pop track, with well-written lyrics and mood, and the perfect mix between synths and guitars.
Defected Presents Noir In The House is out 28th February. Find Noir on Facebook, Twitter and the Noir Music site.

I absolutely adore Noir’s release both as an artist and a label; so it was funny to see how many of our music tastes match. Not surprising I guess.
