The guilty pleasure?
Bonar: The Doobie Brothers – ‘What A Fool Believes’. I love the Doobie Brothers. I love Michael McDonald, I love yacht rock, I love blue-eyed soul… there, I said it!
Tom: ELO – ‘Evil Woman’. Miguel Campbell is responsible for introducing me to this record. He played it to me at a house party in the deepest, darkest depths of Leeds many moons ago.
The best chillout record?
Tom: Hatchback, ‘White Diamond’. I have amazing memories of listening to this record whilst at a friend’s villa in Ibiza. I witnessed a shooting star for the first time. The whole experience was cosmic, dude.
Bonar: Argh, that’s what I was gonna say! OK then, Begin – ‘Velocity Part 2’. This record has got little or no props. Ridiculous, because it’s utterly beautiful.
The record everyone loves but you hate?
Tom: Abba. Most of them – ‘Dancing Queen’, ‘Mamma Mia’, ‘Take A Chance On Me’… Let’s be honest, they were popular but absolutely bobbins!
Bonar: Elton John – ‘Rocket Man’. Hate is a bit of a strong word but I really really don’t like it. I think with any record you personally have to ‘get it’. Something in the song has to resonate with you and with this it just doesn’t. Massively overrated and I don’t know what all the fuss is about, to be honest. And yes, I know it’s supposed to about drug addiction… big whoop!
The worst record you’ve ever heard?
Bonar: Maybe that Fast Food Rockers track. It’s truly horrific. It’s like watching a car crash with your ears. That said, it’s no worse than a lot of the guff that’s pumped out of the X Factor processing plant every year…
The future classic?
Tom: Volta Cab – ‘Don’t Give Up (TRUS’ME Gotta Be Strong Remix)’.
PBR Streetgang play Fabric, London, on February 16th with Michael Mayer, Craig Richards, Terry Francis and Ben Klock.
