The best chillout record?

Actress ‘Hubble’. Actress has been one of my favourite producers for the past couple of years. Those textures he has, the sense of space – it puts you in a different room to anything else you can listen to. ‘Hubble’ makes me feel like floating, either in space or deep sea – perfect for relaxing.

The record everyone loves but you hate?

SBTRKT – ‘Hold On’ (Sisi Bakbak remix). Well, hate is a strong word. I don’t hate it, but I absolutely don’t understand why everyone’s raving about it. I find nothing exciting or touching about it. When I hear this track I have a mental image of a dude eating a bowl of cereal while staring at a white wall.

The best record for a family party?

The Beatles’ red album. Who doesn’t love the Beatles? Also, it better be something that makes you shake your hips… But yeah, it’s pretty hard to find a record that would bring my family together!

The soundtrack to a lazy Sunday afternoon?

John Talabot featuring Pional – ‘So Will Be Now’. It sounds like a perfect track for a sunny late afternoon in Berlin to me, having a BBQ or something…

The worst record you’ve ever heard?

Althea & the Memories – ‘The Worst Record Ever Made’. No, but I love it really.

The future classic?

Motor City Drum Ensemble – ‘Monorail’. Or pretty much any Motor City Drum Ensemble for that matter. MCDE sounds like the old classics with a modern touch, a recipe that can’t fail… I don’t think I’ve ever heard a bad remix or original track from him, so I’d be willing to bet a lot on him in the future.
