Mike Huckaby Has Died

The Detroit DJ, producer, artist, label boss and music educator Mike Huckaby passed away on Friday.

News outlets are reporting that Mike Huckaby passed away on Friday 25th April 2020. The cause of death is currently unknown. Last month, fellow Detroit DJ/producer Delano Smith had launched a GoFundMe to raise funds for Huckaby for an unspecified medical setback.

Huckaby was a key player in Detroit’s underground music scene. He was manager and buyer for the legendary Record Time shop. He devoted much of his time to production education workshops in Detroit, and also went on to work with Ableton and Native Instruments. As a producer, he released his particular brand of potent, tech-tinged deep house on labels like Harmonie Park, Cross Section Records and his own S Y N T H and Deep Transportation imprints. Huckaby bought his productions skills to bear on remixes for artists including Juan Atkin’s Model 500, Loco Dice, Vladislav Delay and DeepChord. Huckaby was also a well-respected international DJ with a busy touring schedule.

Huckaby worked as a music educator, giving classes in electronic music production at YouthVille in Detroit, teaching Ableton and Reaktor. He was an extremely popular member of the Detroit music community and tributes have been flooding in from friends, admirers, his industry peers and the electronic music community worldwide.

Mike was one of the first DJ / producers I met in Berlin who supported me from the beginning, not only giving me great advices, Back in 2015, he said he liked my voice and asked me to speak on “My Life With the Wave vol2 ” – this is a privilege that will stay with me forever.
