To celebrate the 50th birthday of the cassette tape – and, let’s be honest, to promote their soundtrack and sound design company – UK-based Ithaca Audio

have created a real-time video mash-up mixtape using a Tascam MSR-24

The video does raise a few questions. Who knew cassettes were around in 1962? What have 90s Tascam reel-to-reel machines got to do with cassettes? Is it a mixtape, a mash-up or a marketing stunt?

Oh, who really cares? The end result is a little over three minutes of unashamed audio nerdery, from the soft focus intro to the dancing LED level meters. Check it out below.
