Roland AIRA VT-3

Could this be a leaked image of another new Roland AIRA unit?

We’re still waiting for official confirmation of the new successor to the 808 (and possibly 303), but Roland has also been busy elsewhere. There are plenty of new stage pianos and workstations if that’s what you’re into, but we’re more interested in the DS-1X and OD-1X, updated versions of the classic DS-1 and OD-1 stompboxes (both of which can work really well on synths – if you don’t know, get to know), and the mysterious AIRA range. That’s where we’re expecting to find the TR-08 drum machine and TB-03 synth. There also seems to be a new take on the Boss VT-1 Voice Transformer on the way in the shape of the VT-3, pictured above in another leaked image. We’re unable to verify it at this stage but it could well be another product in the AIRA range.

We’ll update when we have official confirmation of any more developments from Roland.

Update: does this new video mean we’ll also see a new evolution of the TR-909, or will one drum machine try to capture the sound of both classic units?

Korg

Lots of new goodies have been unveiled by Korg. First off, completely out of the blue, there’s the limited-edition MS-20 Kit, an MS-20 clone delivered in parts to be assembled by the user. At $1,399.99 it’s way more expensive than the MS-20 Mini but it’s back to full size rather than 86% like the Mini. It also features two switchable filter modes based on variations of the original MS filter.

Elsewhere Korg have shown the new Gadget iPad app, a virtual synth studio. We like the look of this one a lot. Korg’s iOS app range is getting even stronger.

  • Not to mention a new Elektron drum machine and Nord virtual analogue synthesiser as well. Korg seem to have been quiet though, so I hope they have something up their sleeve as well.

  • Korg have an Ikea inspired MS20 DIY kit.

  • I would love Roland to re-release a TB-303 inspired piece of hardware. Analog or digital, preferably analog.

  • The Roland releases will almost assurely be digital. They don’t release anything but digital.

  • I personally don’t understand the Nord A1 release. It comes on the heels of the Lead 4 and is a cheaper easier to use model, with what appears to be only one oscillator. It’s basically a dumbed down 2X with some effects.

  • Moog and Elektrons releases are the most exciting new hardware instrument releases, at least to me.

  • I wonder if the sub 37 will include an option for stereo output.

  • I was spared this time from the (yet) non-existent Aira. Beatport has already deemed it the best in show…

  • Urghh! I wish I was there! The whole musical blogosphere is talking about NAMM
