Shiny new GarageBand and a shiny gold box set, We Love… hits Leeds and Warehouse Project takes a new direction.

Dam-Funk

Version 3 of Dâm-Funk-inspired drum machine available for pre-order. The hand-held drum machine and sequencer (with MIDI for the first time) is the product of a collaboration between Bleep Labs and Stones Throw and features four drum sounds selected by the modern funk producer. To upgrade or not to upgrade? Apple’s revelation of its new operating system OS X Mavericks on Tuesday caused the usual ripples of dread and uncertainty about compatibility with DAWs and plugins. Some guidance on compatibility can be found here at Create Digital Music.

We Love… hits Leeds. The night made famous at Space Ibiza is spending two dates at Leeds’ superclub, Control, on 25th October and 29th November. 2ManyDJs, Cassius, James Zabiela and Groove Armada are among the artists set to headline the We Love… nights. Buy tickets here.

A tale of seventy five drum machines. Beat Box: A Drum Machine Obsession is written by Boston hip-hop producer Joe Mansfield and is an exploration of the author’s 75-strong collection of drum machines, spanning several decades, brands and programmers. Get on Down are offering a special leather-encased edition of the book which comes with a 7-inch and cassette featuring some of Mansfield’s best work using his collection. Have a look here.

DPunk

Random Access to your wallet. If you are looking for Random ways to spend your money on Daft Punk, the deluxe box set edition of their album Random Access Memories is available for pre-order now. The set includes a double vinyl copy of the album with gold and silver foil labels, gold and silver USB drives, a gold-leaf-stamped, cloth-bound box and various other ostentatious robotic paraphernalia.

YouTube may launch on demand music service. Why not? Everyone else has. There are whispers (via Billboard) that the video giant will introduce a subscription service with both free and premium tiers, with the latter offering cached offline and ad-free listening. Licenses have already been acquired through parent company Google’s deals with the majors for Google Play All Access earlier this year, so a subscription service would be relatively pain-free to roll out. It is suspected the main aim is to boost YouTube’s mobile user base.

Garageband

Shiny new GarageBand. At Tuesday’s media conference Apple also announced a more sophisticated version of GarageBand, borrowing from Logic Pro X on design and functionality. Drummer (Logic’s virtual session player) has been added and the iOS version now allows arrangements containing up to 32 tracks.

Warehouse Project to slim down the series in 2014. WHP’s New Year’s Eve line-up announcement (Annie Mac, Sasha, Waze & Odyssey, Paul Woolford B2B Midland…) was accompanied by a note from director Sam Kandel stating that WHP will be doing fewer events and taking a break from the current format: “WHP has always been about not standing still and has kept that idea at the forefront.” See the full announcement here.

API Audio announce new mini console. THE BOX is a small-format recording/mixing console which handles mic preamps, input signal processing, high-quality mix bus, cue sends with talkback, monitor control and more. THE BOX is designed to bypass some redundant capacities of larger consoles, thereby making it more efficient and cost-effective for smaller studios. Cost-effective at  $17,995, that is. We want one.
