RipX Backstage is making waves in the music production world with its launch as the first AR/VR music suite and digital audio workstation (DAW) designed exclusively for the Apple Vision Pro

A New (Virtual) Era in Music Creation?

The software takes full advantage of the Apple Vision Pro’s eye-tracking and hand gesture recognition, allowing users to engage in a fully immersive 3D music creation experience. Musicians and producers can record, edit, and explore music in new ways, using only their hands and voice for control. The suite introduces spatial audio, adding another dimension to the music creation process.

Martin Dawe, CEO of Hit’n’Mix Ltd (the company behind RipX), comments on the new product: “RipX Backstage marks a bold leap into the future of music creation, learning, and enjoyment. This immersive suite empowers musicians and producers to break from the constraints of conventional computer screens and experience physical freedom in a tangible music-making environment.”

Key Features of RipX Backstage

The platform is divided into four main functions, offering unique ways to interact with music:

  1. Watch & Discover: Users can explore the Band Room, where any song is split into individual instrument tracks, which can be adjusted and repositioned in 3D space. Additionally, the Showcase lets music come to life in dynamic, visual ways.
  2. Learn & Play: Aspiring musicians can visualise and interact with piano keys, guitar chords, and drum beats in real-time. The suite also offers tools to slow down tempos, adjust volumes, and practice with a built-in metronome.
  3. Record & Create: The platform allows users to capture music using voice, Bluetooth MIDI, and 3D instrument models. It also includes intuitive editing features and voice-controlled effects, providing a fluid music-making experience.
  4. Producer Deck: This feature offers studio-grade effects and a variety of loops, samples, and pitch bending tools, all within a visually engaging interface.

Industry Reactions

Music professionals have praised RipX Backstage for its potential to transform music production. Alex Blanco, a music producer and technology writer (including for Attack Magazine), said, “”I’ve been waiting impatiently for a killer AR application for producers. With the ability to clearly view (and edit) every note of every track in a song, simultaneously, in pristine 3D, this might just be it.”

Stefano Ritteri, a music producer, described the experience as revolutionary: “We were in a hotel room, and suddenly… we were in a studio! The potential for this DAW is incredible, having a studio on the road and collaborating with other producers in a virtual space is the stuff of dreams.”
