Mackie MR824

Situated in frequency and price range equivalent to the JBL 306P MkII is the Mackie MR824 monitors. This series of monitors comes in 5”, 6”, and 8” inch versions. For our purposes, we will be focusing on the 8” version.
The MR824 can easily handle low bass frequencies with a frequency range of 35 Hz – 20 kHz, whether that be a synth bass or an electric bass. As a result, it’s a great speaker for hip hop and electronic music, especially at the price. It has great stereo imaging, and does well in various rooms and placements thanks to Mackie’s waveguide technology.
If you feel like two 8” monitors takes up too much space in your bedroom or recording studio, keep in mind that Mackie has smaller models. An audiophile might quibble about the reduced depth and accuracy on the bass end of these smaller models, but they’re still great for the price, especially for novice producers.
